We are pleased and grateful to welcome back Stan Bilinski as our volunteer chef in the kitchen this summer. Stan has been at camp since the start of June preparing for its opening. Read on to learn more about the man behind Saint Andrew’s Camp cooking.
Name: Stan Bilinski
Hometown: Athens, Georgia
Favorite Camp Memory: Years spent at Boy Scout camp every summer, and especially the summer spent as a counselor in training at Boy Scout camp.
What do you enjoy most about St Andrew’s Camp: There are so many things! It rekindles a lot of memories of childhood because of being on the lake. The lake is a beautiful aspect of camp life. I grew up in Auburn, New York, even though I live in Georgia now, so it is nice to be back at home. I enjoy “my time” from 5 in the morning until the first person comes down for coffee, and saying good morning to the lake.
Being able to contribute my time, gifts and talents to Saint Andrew’s Camp is a huge gift for me. I came to Saint Andrew’s Camp after being unable to work for nearly a year, and coming to Saint Andrew’s as a chef was my first chance to test my skills after being laid up, and to explore and understand what I am still capable and offering to others. I am so grateful to be welcomed by all and to do what I love doing for campers.
What special treats do you have planned for campers this year? We will be doing “themed dinners” every Thursday night for campers. Also, when you arrive at camp this year, you will notice the beautification in the dining room and kitchen area. Also, there will be lots of yummy baked goods, as always.
What do you look forward to most about camp this year? Visiting a church
service again. I already visited Ss Peter and Paul in Syracuse, New York for a Vespers and Liturgy. I appreciate that everyone welcomes me into the church and the services.
What are your greatest blessings? My family and my friends are my greatest blessings.
A message to volunteers from Stan: My goal is free you up from the duties of the kitchen as much as possible to be with the kids so that you can integrate into the life of St Andrew’s, enjoy the surroundings, take in
the activities and take in the fun and experiences with the children.
Parting thoughts: “Come on down to camp, kids! The more the merrier.”
