SAC Board Covid-19 letter re 2020 Camping Season

Dear Saint Andrew’s Camp Friends,

Christ is Risen!!!

During the unprecedented times we are facing in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, please know that we are thinking of you and praying for you. This crisis has brought many changes and challenges to daily life, including church life. We hope you are keeping well and healthy and that your ‘new normal’ of virtual school, work, and worship is settling in.

While Holy Week and Pascha  were coming upon us we recognized and lamented how different things would be for you and your families as we honor the important and necessary social distancing that our civil authorities and hierarchs endorse. The Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America released this communique and guidelines for observing Holy Week and Pascha. Things will certainly be different, but we know that “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20) and that the church is not a building but the body of Christ, transcending time and location. We hope that you were able to experience a full journey to the empty tomb and a joyous Pascha.

Following the lead of our hierarchs and other organizations across the country and world, we are evaluating  the schedule for camp and do not expect it will open as planned in June. We don’t know what lies ahead with the virus, and June and July are not clearly going to be reasonable to open.  We are looking at all options.

We are continuing to monitor and assess the crisis and remain in touch with local authorities, camping organizations, and our church leadership (bishops) to determine what comes next. By the beginning of June, we will also share with you whether or not we hold a later camp session (one to two weeks) in August. It is too soon to tell at this point, but we are remaining humbly optimistic that we can bring our campers and staff together in person this summer.

Please accept our prayers and greetings during this  Paschal season. We wish you well as you continue to adapt in our changing environment. Please stay tuned for more information from us as it becomes available on our Facebook page and website.

Indeed He is Risen!
